For thousands of years, dates have been a staple food in the Middle East and the Indus Valley. There is archeological evidence that the dates were first cultivated in Mehrgarh, what is now western Pakistan in around 7000 BCE and in eastern Arabis between 5530 and 5320 BC. Dates have been cultivated since prehistoric times, the Hebrews used the fruit to make wine, cakes, bread, vinegar, and the wood to make utensils. Dates are also an iconic part of the Muslim culture. The production of dates is especially concentrated in the Middle East.

Dates are a very nutritious and delicious fruit that contain carbohydrates and minerals such as magnesium, copper, manganese, phosphorous, potassium, iron, sulfur, calcium, and oil, all of which have numerous health benefits.
